CHDK Canon S100 not Geotagging photos

Hello guys,

I am using the Canon S100 camera for aerial surveys using UAVs (drones) with the latest version of CHDK and the KAP script on it. Since I updated the CHDK to the lastest version the camera stopped from geotagging the photos. I tried EVERYTHING. Activating GPS log, waypoints, and GPS of course.
Without CHDK (clean SD) or with previous versions if the CHDK, when I got GPS lock, the photos has its geoposition in the EXIF data. When using the new version if CHDK, there is no more GPS in the EXIF data besides it shows GPS lock on the LCD screen... thats the strange thing.
Anybody has the same problem? I need help please. What should I do?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Paul

If you can tell us which version of CHDK did work, that would be helpful.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Sorry I forgot the old version: The one it worked is the 1.2. Thank you.

Does this happen with a new installation of CHDK where you have not enabled the CHDK GPS functionality? Or only after the CHDK GPS code had been enabled at least once?

Also, are you using the genuine kap_uav.lua script from this forum or the hacked version posted on one of the UAV websites?

Finally found a few minutes to look at this and I can't reproduce the problem on my S100.

Here's what I did :
  • Low level formatted a 2G SD card in the camera.
  • Used STICK to download latest and install latest dev version of CHDK (CHDK 1.5.0 Rev 4502)
  • Started the camera with CHDK disabled (i.e. SD card lock switch "unlocked")
  • Set GPS to On in the Canon GPS Settings Menu.  GPS Logger was left Off
  • Waited in shooting mode for the camera to achieve GPS lock (as indicated by the Canon on screen icon)
  • Took two photos.
  • Powered the camera off,  moved the SD card lock to "Locked", restarted the camera with CHDK now loaded
  • Waited for GPS lock
  • Took two more photos.
  • Enabled CHDK GPS in the CHDK GPS Settings menu.  Also turned on the CHDK compass
  • Took two more photos
When I checked the resulting six images on my PC, they all had valid GPS position information in their EXIF data (checked with showFoto).

So there does not appear to be a fundamental bug here.  More likely some other usage case not covered by my test but I'm not sure what that would be.

EDIT : I also loaded the current version of kap_uav.lua and ran the script to take a few photos.  All of those had GPS info embedded correctly as well.
