Hi,
I'm trying to use a 64GB card on Canon G12. When I use STICK to prepare the SD card, i get an error message: Installation failed - see log for details. It also says: The volume is too big for FAT32.' Please see below the last few lines in the log file. Any idea on how to fix this is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Belal

Formatting H: named Photos
Command 'format H: /fs:FAT32  /v:Photos /y /q' issued
   return code was 4
Output: 'The type of the file system is RAW.
The new file system is FAT32.
QuickFormatting 60889M
The volume is too big for FAT32.'
Copying files from C:\Users\BA\Desktop\Fall2015\ARTD\Camera\Stable CHDK\g12-100e\ to H:
Command 'xcopy CHDK H:CHDK /e /i /y' issued
   return code was 4
Output: '0 File(s) copied'
Installation failed - see log for details

Try formatting the card with this utility before running STICK. STICK is using OS facilities to format cards and Windows does not allow FAT32 formatting on partitions bigger than 32 GB.

Thanks for the reply, I did use this tool to format the card as FAT32.

I see.
I this case, you could try contacting the author (see bottom of page here: http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/stick/stick.html ).

Or, if you just want to make the card bootable, follow the steps written here (and ignore the card size reference as you can format all cards with the above mentioned utility): https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=12321.msg126273#msg126273

edit:
Disregard what I wrote above. I was assuming the G12 is recent enough to be able to boot from FAT32. Unfortunately, it's older. Solving this problem on Windows is therefore difficult or even impossible.

Belal's problem is that he's using a G12 (a pre-2011 camera) and hence the card needs to have two partitions - a small FAT16 one and a large FAT32 one. STICK can't create that that since it uses Windows to do the formatting and Windows doesn't support formatting a 64GB card as FAT32. But when STICK is presented with a FAT32 64GB card and is asked to install CHDK for a pre-2011 camera it tries to create and format the two partitions and fails.

I think Belal's only option with that card is to use the Firmware Update method.

Thank you both for your input. The firmware update method worked great with Canon G12  :) .
