Help - two problems

1. Can I override (lower) fps in video mode? The reason I want this is to shoot timelapse videos directly from camera.

2. Today I tried to use motion detection script ("embedded" in the last CHDK so-called stable version) to take some lightning pictures. Unfortunatelly, camera detected continuously raindrops and took pictures almost every second. Also I noticed that it focused after every picture. Can you advise me how to modify the sensitivity of motion detect to take pictures only when a lightning appears? And to stop the focusing after every picture should I switch to manual focus or is there a "wiser" script?

No. To shoot timelapse with CHDK, you need to shoot individual stills with an intervalometer script and then assemble them into a movie.

I'd suggest mdfb2013 https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10864.0

You'll have to adjust the parameters find the right parameters to avoid triggering on the rain. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Motion_Detection has some hints. If you set focus at infinity, rain may be less of a factor.
Also, make sure the camera doesn't trigger if you point it at scene with no motion, individual ports may have bugs that cause MD to trigger all the time. It's a good idea to tell us which camera you are using.

Oh, yes, sorry... I forgot, I use SX510HS.

I thought there is a easiest way to make and save timelapses directly from camera (similar to Magic Lantern) by overriding fps. The "hardest" way I already used, see bellow:


Thanks for recommendation, I'll try to use that script and see if it works properly.

PS: anyway, fps override may be possible in the future or Canon firmware don't allow it?

It's likely possible in principle, but how viable it is in practice requires someone invest a lot of time into reverse engineering. There has been some experimentation in this area, but nothing really usable AFAIK. See https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=7938.0 for example.

If you want timelapse with relatively high frame rate, my script http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Lua/Scripts:_Raw_Meter_Intervalometer allows capturing stills at close to the Canon continuous shooting rate, with very good exposure control.

Cameras that have "miniature effect" video can probably use this script (disclaimer: I did not try it) made by fabri22. It allows removing the blurred area, and video framerate is significantly reduced in this mode.
Of course, there's limitations, such as
- the Canon time and file size limit
- video quality (CHDK may not be able to control this, even if it supports quality override)
- less than full HD resolution

I just make a collection of scripts to have it all the time on the SD. Very tricky the use of miniature video mode. :)

Thank you both of you for the prompt and exact help. I'll test those scripts. For now, I tested scripts for lightning photo, but they are either not functional (camera take pictures continuously) or too sensitive and it's very difficult to fine tune them. But I'm tenacious and I hope someday to succeed. :D

Have you tested the motion script looking at an scene that doesn't have any motion at all? As I mentioned before, it's possible that there are bugs in the port you are using that make it trigger even if there is no motion.

Digital zoom and some special scene modes might be broken even on ports that normally work.

Also, if you are using auto exposure in a dark scene or using high ISO, the live view may be very noisy, which would require a much higher threshold.

The main value to tune in mdfb2013 is "Trigger threshold". Higher values are less sensitive.

Good to know what you say.
I tested some scripts even in no motion scenes and they take pictures continuously. Until now, I found a sigle script that seems to work for my camera: MDFB2013. But I need to perform a fine tuning, because sometime it takes pictures randomly.

I began to read it yesterday, but parameters in my working script are slightly different. I'll try to adapt the article to my script, see it bellow.
