S110 - Turning the display off

Hi - I've been using CHDK for about a year for near-space photography. I recently acquired a canon S110. The .lua file I was using for a a1100 (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Lua/Scripts:_Accurate_Intervalometer_with_power-saving_and_pre-focus) won't turn off the display. Nor will any other intervalometer scripts. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get the S110 display to turn off? Thanks for thelp!

Some older scripts may not work well with the S110.  I'll take a look and post an updated version of "your" script.

I'll bet you $1000 that is not true.  8)

EDIT 1 : the original version of that script uses the DISP key to turn off the LCD.  That only works on camera with an OVF (optical view finder) like your A1100.  The S110 does not have an OVF.  Try the updated script linked from that page ( https://github.com/alfredopironti/chdk-scripts/blob/master/lapse.lua ).  It uses the set_lcd_display(), which will work with your S110.

Thank you for the help Waterwingz.

Perhaps my last post was a little on the dramatic side   :lol :lol

The new version won't run because it thinks my card is full. I'll quick do a fresh install of CHDK and see if that helps. Is that a common error at all?

This seems really cool. Still the same problem though, doesn't turn of the display the whole time. As soon as it takes a picture, it insists on flashing it on the screen.

If you are using the SD card from your A1100 it is likely setup with dual partitions.  The S110 does not need dual partitions and in fact cannot use them.  It will only see the first partition on the card - usually a small one.  You need to do a low level reformat of the card in the camera and then reinstall.

What display settings did you try in the kap_uav.lua script? And did you disable the shot review function in the Canon menu?

With a fresh CHDK install, the lapse.lua script worked.

However, as soon as the camera takes a picture it flashes that picture on the display. It does keep the display off the rest of the time. Is that a setting that can be changed? Is it on the cannon OS side? or is there a CHDK work around?

Here at the settings fro the lapse.lua:

With the camera in shooting mode, and CHDK inactive, press the MENU button to activate the Canon menus.  Scroll down to the Review menu item and make sure it is set to Off.

If what I posted above does not work,  please set the shot interval to 10 seconds and record the screen while it takes three shots?  It's too hard to see the sequence of what is happening with the video you posted.
