Try it out, it should work though I know it has some quirks.

If you want to receive an e-mail for each mention go to your Profile > Profile Info > Mentions and check the box on the right lower corner.

 So if I understand this correctly, simply inserting someone's user name anywhere is a posting (preceded by an @) will cause a notification to be sent to them?
