CHDK ver 1.5.0 revision 4663 doesn't make RAW (or DNG) files

Hi

I'm new to the forum, apologies in advance if this is not the right place for this question.

Using Stick, I just installed CHDK ver 1.5.0 revision 4663 on a Canon SX120IS, firmware ver 100b.
Everything works fine, I've used CHDK before and I love it - especially the scripting.
Awesome job guys - great 'ware.

However, it doesn't seem to create RAW (or DNG) files.
I have input the following settings:

Main Menu -> RAW (Digital Negative) -> Save RAW (is selected).
RAW File Folder -> With JPG
RAW File Prefix -> CRW_
RAW File Extension -> .CRW
RAW Operations Prefix -> CRW_
RAW Operations Extension -> .CRW

DNG Format -> (selected)
DNG File Extension -> (selected)

Also sometimes when I turn the camera on, it says, "Card Locked" and CHDK does not load and I can't save anything, JPG or Raw.

Any help would be appreciated.

How are you looking for the RAW/DNG files?  You probably need to use a card reader on your PC - you will not be able to see them using a USB cable connecting the camera to your PC.

Is the SD card lock switch actually in the "Locked" position when this happens?  And does CHDK automatically start when the camera turns on when the SD card lock is "Locked".  (It should if you used STICK correctly).

Off hand, it sounds like an issue with the slide mechanism on the card. Does it do this with other cards?

I really appreciate your taking the time to help with this - thankyou.
:)

-Yes, the card is locked - I double/triple checked that.
I moved the lock slide off and on again (firmly) a couple of times to make sure.

-Yes, CHDK does start automatically when the camera is turned on.

Good point - I'll try that now.
Nope, same thing - I just tried it with two other cards.

Here's what I'm doing:
-Prep the card using Stick, lock the card and put it in the camera.

change this setting (and this setting only) to 'selected' :
-Main Menu -> RAW (digital negative) -> Save RAW (change to selected).

then i shoot a pic, take the card out, put it in a USB card reader and use windows explorer to view the files on the card.
The JPG is there but (almost always) no RAW or DNG files.

What's really odd is that I've been trying different settings and a couple times (out of several dozen setting permutation combinations) the RAW and DNG files are exactly where they should be, but its flaky - hit and miss.
I can never duplicate the success.
If I just delete the files using the camera's non-CHDK menu then shoot again, without having changed anything, there will be no RAW or DNG files anywhere to be found.
It seems to work on a purely off-and-on random basis.
Strange hey?

Also - sometimes when I use the USB card reader to read the card and look for the files, I get this error message:
http://www3.telus.net/t-howell/sx120is/err-msg.jpg

I select 'proceed' and it reads the card.

Typically,  when you take a picture with RAW/DNG enabled,  there is a noticeable delay (2-3 seconds) while the image is being written to the SD card and before the camera is ready for the next shot.

Are you observing that?

Yes - there is a two to three second delay.
It seems to be working now - when I read the card with the USB reader attached to my desktop, it shows the DNG files (no RAW).
Oddly, windows explorer gives me this error message (which I ignore and proceed anway):
http://www3.telus.net/t-howell/sx120is/err-msg.jpg

Yep - I just tried again (fourth time).
I delete the files on the card using the camera's "Erase All..." menu option, shoot a couple more files, read the card with the reader, get (and ignore) that error message, and there are DNG files but no RAW.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me with this - I appreciate it.

That windows message is normal - it doesn't think the SD card is clean.  Next time let it try to fix the card - it won't hurt anything and should get rid of the message in future.

Also, you get either a RAW file or a DNG file. Not both.

Done - yes, the error message doesn't reappear.
I turned off DNG and now I get CRW - awesome.
It seems to be working fine now.
Maybe it was just the card.
Thanks again for the help.
CHDK rocks!
