My canon powershot SD 770 is connected to the computer via usb port from camera, is it possible to install CHDK like this? Or will I have to invest in a card reader?

I have already tried card tricks/stick tool and I have tried manually placing the files within the removable directory but I had no luck( card wont read and I dont have access to write via drag and drop)

You'll need a card reader.
