At least it's another feature put to the test  :D (which also works)
And I can confirm that USB remote works, also. (per http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Testing)

@reyalp :  please move the G16 1.01a to Alpha status and release to the autobuild?

Updated 2018/02/24 : Porting for the G16 is complete! Firmware versions 1.00h, 1.01a & 1.01c are available from the CHDK autobuild starting with release 1.5.0.

A test release for the other known firmware version is here :

link >  G16 1.01b  md5 : 4e3b92dbbace00e40746611f29421fd9

The 1.01b version is completely untested at this point.  Until further feedback is received, this versions will not be available in the autobuild.

Posting test results in this thread will help move the unreleased ports to released status in the CHDK autobuild.

Well, I've started another port.

In keeping with  CHDK Wikia :  My Camera Isn't Ported Yet - where it says "If there is work being done on a camera, there will be a development thread in the CHDK forum and maybe something about it on that model's wiki page" -  I'm starting this development thread.

So far I have something that builds and loads far enough to blink the camera's green LED in the boot.c code.  Which for a DIGIC6 camera is pretty close to magic (thanks to srsa_4c & reyalp).

At this point,  there is support four versions of G16 firmware :  1.00h , 1.01a , 1.01b , 1.01c.

I only have access to a 1.01c camera.   I need volunteers who will test the other versions.

PM me with an email address [ link ] and I'll add you to the beta testing team.

At some point I'll post builds here.  If you want to try the green led blinking code in advance of that, just let me know.

I have a 1.01b firmware camera and would like to test the build for this.  However, I'm not able to download a zip file; I am getting the file from

http://ge.tt/6Q9yiln2

and it downloads as a full folder with subdirectories.  When installed to the SD card, the camera will not recognize that anything is there.

LDBenjamin : thanks for moving the PM's we have been exchanging here so that everyone can share / help.

FWIW .. you tried installing the CHDK G16 1.01b files onto an SD card but could not get the firmware update method to work. As we discussed, there is no ps.fi2 in the G16 release so the firmware update method of booting CHDK will not work.

We talked about STICK and using unsupported builds ( http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/stick/stickx.html )

So I'm struggling with why you are having trouble downloading that zip file?  It's my repository and should work. Downloads just fine for me.

I figured out the problem with the zip file.  Safari automatically unzips any zip files as they download.  This does not happen with Chrome.  I was able to copy the zip file to Stick and rename it, however, Stick still does not recognize it so I cannot proceed to Step 1.

In Windows, there's no problem copying and renaming the zip file, and this time Stick recognizes it, but despite running Stick as an administrator, it is stopping at Step 3 and telling me it needs permission to analyze the SD card.

When it says :   Step 3: Analyse Card   awaiting permission to scan
what happens if you click on the button right below that that says  Scan for Cards ?

It returns the message "STICK needs permission to analyse disk" when the Scan for Cards button is pressed.

I was able to get everything to load by using a different photo in STICK.  No idea why that would make a difference.  Everything seems to be present but when the locked card is inserted in the camera, the camera merely recognizes it as a locked card and does not load CHDK.

If you start the camera by pressing the Playback button,  does the green LED beside the optical view finder blink twice or three times?

If you start the camera by pressing the ON/OFF button, does the lens extend immediately?  Or does the camera startup in Playback mode?

Starting in playback mode, the green LED blinks twice.

Using on/off button to start, the lens extends immediately and other than the card being locked, appears ready to shoot.
