Dealing with resonance of Ixus cameras image stabilization

I have problems with the Image Stabilization system of a Ixus 240 camera.

The point is that even if the electro mechanical stabilization system (IS) , basically a lens held by some springs is disable,  it still there and if the camera operates in a high vibrations environment  it goes in resonance and shots are blur.

One solution would be to open the camera and glue it .

I wonder if another less crude solution would be to send a command to block it in a certain position .

I do not know if it would make a difference compared to disabling IS from Canon Menu.

Any suggestion is welcome !

P.s. My knowledge about  Canon IS is equal to zero ,  I just suppose that the IS is a electro mechanical system similar to similar digital cameras.

I wouldn't expect there to be a way to lock it more than turning off in the menu. However, there are a lot of IS related evenprocs in the firmware, maybe one of them would be useful. You can find them by searching for IS in funcs_by_name.csv for your camera in the source.

An alternative might be to get one of the cheaper Ixus or A series that doesn't have hardware IS at all.

There is a long discussion about this issue here :  DIY Drones : Let's Talk Canon Cameras.  It points out (as you suggest) that the lens is "literally floating". So turning off IS does not help as the lens vibrates regardless and there is no mechanical way to "lock" it into one position.

I receive yesterday a Ixus 160 and I confirm that with no hardware IS the problem disappear .

I made comparative video  test with a S110 and a Ixus 240 , both cameras in the same shooting conditions of the 160 showed the classical rolling shutter  issue when in full daylight and vibrations when cloudy or low light conditions.

The problem with the 160 are poor specs , i.e. video is not Full HD but only 720P  and even with 20 mpixel , images are not really great .

reyalp, I will check if the IS evenprocs could solve the problem
