Does auto focus lock also lock exposure

I'll try the settings on the new one as in the old one on Monday.


But performance-wise - is it very much slower to fo a full press every time? Could I edit the script so as not to use half press at alla? That'd be the next step.

If you want auto exposure for each shot, you need a half press between shots. It's probably a quite slower, but it's still not totally clear what is happening in the case that "works". If it's not waiting for the camera to be fully ready before going from half to full, the speed difference might not be so big.

Yes, I would like just two things: AFL at the start for the entire set of shots, and autoexposure for every shot.


Counting frames or anything else is not vital.

There were three versions of this script posted back in your original thread on this forum.   The one you posted here was 8mmsync3.lua - and it had the bug reyalp pointed out.  Script remoteAFL.lua did just what you are now requesting so you could try it.  It will cut your shot rate roughly in half from one second per shot to two seconds per shot so I hope that's okay.  The second script ( 8mmsync2.lua ) will run faster than the first but slower than the third.  It does not have the same bug as the third script but does lock exposure.

The camera only updates exposure when half press is pressed.

Normally, there is a delay between when you press half and when the camera is ready. Waiting for this will slow down shooting a lot, as waterwingz says.

However, the cameras make a "best effort" if you just push the button all the way quickly. This is usually doesn't focus well, but maybe in your case it would be OK since you only need exposure. I suspect this is happening with the camera that works for you now, but through a combination of bugs rather than by design.

(I added a corrected version of the script the post it was originally attached to. It might be interesting to see of the bug was creating the exposure issues - although I agree it should not have been doing so?)

I tested the script in https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=13079.msg132047#msg132047 on D10, using the remote settings in each screenshot. It appears to behave the same, not adjusting the exposure between shots... except if you leave alt mode while the script is running. If you do leave alt and the remote type and mode are set, the script still runs (in some ill defined way) but exposure is reset each shot because the shooting is purely controlled by the remote.

@heikkiH
When you run the script, do you press the "alt" button after setting focus, before starting the remote control? If so, this is definitely not the way it was intended.

Makes sense.  The script will shoot in parallel with the USB Remote code, which will release the "half press" - affecting both.

I guess we could explicitly lock out USB Remote built-in functionality when a script is running (as it is in ALT mode).

I can't tell for 100% sure. I load the script, then press shutter to start it, press DISP to lock focus and then MENU to wait for Arduino. Next time I'll make sure I don't touch the ALT.
