Hi,
I have CHDK installed on my A590 SD card. Can I copy that installation to another card?
Thanks,

Yes, but it's easiest if it's the same size SD card for the same camera model and firmware version.  If you want it to be bootable, you need to use a low level copy like dd.  It also gets tricky if you are using cards larger than 4G with older cameras like the A590.

Hi Waterwingz,
I'm using a 1 gig card right now, which is big enough, but I would like a back up. I have a 2 gig card, but no other 1's. Low level copy like dd??

In case you want to keep the same settings and scripts, you could do this:
- back up the CHDK folder on your current card
- format the other card (filesystem should be FAT16)
- copy the CHDK folder to the other card
- install CHDK via STICK on the other card (this step will also update the necessary CHDK files in the CHDK folder)
The above should work for cards not bigger than 4GB. Note that 4GB cards are formatted to FAT32 by default (in camera and on the PC), so this step needs to be done on the PC, choosing FAT16 as filesystem.

Hi srsa_4c,
I'm not sure what you mean by  "install CHDK via STICK".

I was assuming you're familiar with the STICK utility (which is what we usually recommend to make installation simpler).

Hi srsa_4c,
No, I'm not familiar with stick; and I don't have Java installed.

Another option:

Copy all the files from the old SD card to the new, using regular file copy (drag and drop in explorer or whatever)
Put the new card in the camera
Start CHDK using "Firm update" http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/%22firmware_update_method%22
Use "make card bootable" from the miscellaneous menu
Don't forget what the H stands for.
