It was the set_focus() who was causing that draw. After commenting it out, it works nicely.
FWIW, manual focus using more power has been noted before. It's likely this applies to AF lock as well.

Turning them off after the shot may return power consumption to normal.

Enabling both AF lock and MF at the same time seems a bit suspect to me, I'd suggest using whichever one works on your camera, or neither if your camera is able to focus override in AF mode.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I enabled them both because I was trying to find a combination that works (tried different versions, none seems to work the way I wanted it to).
On my SX210 I can focus before, then the script will use that focus distance. On the SX510 it works only in manual focus mode (as in, from the canon menu), but that's not what I wanted (I liked the autofocus).
