Hi all,
When I zoom into the DNG images (using OS/X Preview app), I think I see a level of detail that can't exist with a simple JPEG, because JPEGs represent color in 8x8 pixel blocks.
 Can someone tell me though definitively whether there are JPEG previews in CHDK DNGs?

There are no previews.  However, there is a small thumbnail image. 

See : CHDK generated DNG has no preview

edit :  also The DNG generated by CHDK on a Canon A550 has no embedded preview
