newbie here - Allbest on a710 IS - How come I can't use the zoom?

Just downloaded and put CHDK Allbest on my memory card, takena few pictures sitting at my desk here at work. I'm wondering though - when in ALT mode it seems as if none of the cameras basic features work. The zoom toggle does nothing, half-pressing the shutter doesn't appear to focus the camera, etc.

Is this by design? Or is something wrong with my copy of CHDK?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm completely new to this, so please keep your insults to a tolerable minimum

When <Alt> is active in record mode the default script will run, this is probably what 'blocks your basic functions' ...
Don't worry, we've all made this mistake

Most important is to remember that after loading CHDK is always
active, you only use <alt> mode for settings (in PB mode) or script execution (in REC mode)
