Battery replacement issues.


I get 3.3V from the power supply via a buck down regulator, and the gallery mode works fine, but trying to start the camera turns it on and back off again. Keeping the power button down cycles it on and off as shown in the video. I have a 3D printed battery mockup inside the camera, and it has the correct polarity.


I wonder what could cause the behavior? In the past I have used a Canon DC coupler DC-10, but would like to drop it. Or is there some circuitry inside the DC coupler I am not aware of?

3.3V is not much. My S110 switches off at 3.2V.
In the moment, where the lens goes out, the camera needs a lot of current. In this moment, I would think, the power goes  a little bit down and the cam switches off.

I don’t think that is a problem of the DC coupler.

My DC supply delivers more than 4V

Okay, so I can safely screw up the buck regulator to 4V?


I was worried about doing that and releasing the holy blue smoke that operates all electronic devices, but I'll try it right after I get home from next week's trip.

Yes,  I’m using on my S110 around 4,3V (5V – 0,7V) and the regulator has to deliver a least 2A…

The camera in the REC mode can drain more than 2 amperes of current .
If the maximum output current of your DC power supply is less than 2 A, it is likely the cause of your problems.

Ah yes. I'll switch to a 3.3A adapter from a recycled ADSL modem.
