How to zoom/crop a raw file in camera

I have forgotten the steps I used to produce a macro image from a raw file in camera with CHDK.

I used the Develop command in RAW in which you switch to picture capture mode and set the colour etc you wish to use in the new jpeg that will be created.  Then take the picture.

in the past, i was able to zoom the camera after selecting Deveop in capture mode.  whatever level of zoom I selected was shown in numerals on screen.

There must be a setting I am forgetting that is required to have the selected zoom be applied.

thanks,

John

I would guess you were using one of the digital zoom settings.

For any serious processing, I'd suggest using raw software on a PC.

I had forgotten that the Canon menu in capture mode allows turning on digital zoom.

I wonder if the first 4 levels of the in camera RAW zoom are digiatl or optical since in normal capture mode the Canon zoom goes to 4x as optical.

The camera has 4x optical zoom. Digital zoom does not affect raw: the full, unzoomed frame is always captured. You can digital zoom after the fact in raw develop, but this is functionally the same as cropping and re-sizing in raw processing software.
