However, I just have these bare boards hanging off my cameras, and that is bad because I feel I have to treat them with kid gloves whenever I touch them. In the future I want to be able to take my setup down, transport it somewhere and set it up again, and I need something that's physically more robust.

Not sure if volume would be economic but could you consider an rtv silicone mold and fibreglass resin encapsulation?

In my experience release spray has never been required to extract from the mold and incredibly accurate scales, for mixing ratios, are available incredibly cheaply.

Hi Andrew,
thank-you for that info - my general impression was that the cost and time of doing something like that would negate the initial cost saving anyway, but now I have specific search terms to google for and I can see the actual prices are lowish, it might be ok.

How is your human-scanning coming along anyway? I've done a couple of people now, results look nice when a photo texture is applied, but the underlying mesh is only so-so. I would like to post some results here, I will have to ask the models for permission first.

And, whereabouts in the UK are you? I'm in Hertfordshire, I'd be very open to meeting up if you want,

andrew

If you do use RTV within, say, an mdf enclosure in which mdf formed the base onto which the resin was to be poured (holding the pcb up 2 or 3mm with some tiny spacers) my experience is also that coating the mdf (edit: the smooth mdf face) with vaseline prior resin pouring enables easy extraction.

The "image acquisition system" is not yet a sure thing - this amongst others:

Well, photogrammetry uses cameras so that would be very interesting for a few folk around here!

English mum, Irish dad  ;)

Will send you a PM.
