I also ventured on time for a firework of time lapse. The biggest challenge was to find a suitable location for the camera. I did not want to realign the camera at midnight either.
So an exposure time of more than 1s I think for too much. I finally chose 1s with an interval of 1.9s. Even then it still looks pretty choppy. RAW is already important to balance the enormous dynamics. At the next opportunity, I'll try that in parallel with video from then you're just very limited in the post.
