sx710 porting thread

Builds for sx710 100a and 101a are available in the trunk 1.5 autobuild

I picked one of these up on sale from Canon refurb, so I guess it's time for a thread.

Mine came with firmware 101a, which is already in the dumps repository. A 100a firmware has also been dumped. I will probably work on that after I get 101a running. - started, see below

DryOS 57, like M10. Same dancingbits and fi2 encoding works.
ver.req works, vers.req does not.
Canon Basic dumper works
runs with the battery door open in stock firmware.
power LED is the same as other digic 6
Has a "hidden" ND filter in addition to iris.

edit 2017 12 07
build 4941
Test build for sx710hs 101a attached. Basic features (script, exposure override, DNG) should be implemented, but I have done very little testing. Use at your own risk
Remote shoot and >64 sec exposures are NOT implemented. An FI2 for "firm update" loading is not included.

edit 2017 12 07 #2
Updated with build 4942
Changes
* Fixed ISO override real/market conversion,
* Corrected number of zoom steps
* Disabled focus override in AF, because it crashes
Much more tested than the previous build, it seem pretty usable. More details in the notes.txt

edit 2017 12 09
SX710 101a is now in the autobuild, starting with build 4952.
Test builds removed.
Most CHDK features should be functional, though it hasn't had a lot of real world user yet. Fast MD, shutter > 64 sec and USB remote capture were added since the the previous test build.

Weirdly, I think this was the most straightforward port I've done

edit 2017 12 10
Added test build 4957 for firmware 100a. Since I don't have this firmware version, it's completely untested.

edit 2017 12 15
100a port enabled in autobuild 4960, test build removed

I'm thinking this camera port may be quite similar/ more similar to the SX60 Hs than many other Digic 6 ports.  The LCD is 922k dots? and most of the other controls are similar.  So I'm interested if you encounter anything which you find odd in the display code especially, but also elsewhere which might also need tweaking in the Sx60 case.
Thx.

Off topic but did you look into this : https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=12532.msg135421#msg135421 .  I'll check my SX50 .

Great job!
I haven't tested it very extensively, but I've tried your version for the 100a and it boots fine, raw recording works, overrides work... anything I should look for in particular?

Btw is there an easy way to switch from recording to playback mode, since that button is used to enter <Alt> mode?

Typically, the button used to enter <ALT> will perform its normal Canon specific function if you hold it down a little bit longer.

Right, thanks!
Must have forgotten that, too many months have passed since I last used CHDK  ::)

Thanks for the report on 100a :D Assuming shooting and basic CHDK functions work, it should be as complete as the 101a port, so I'll add it to the autobuild when I have a chance.

FWIW, you can also set the alt to the wifi connect button (the one with the phone icon on it, not the UP but with the wifi icon) on this camera. Personally, I find this convenient since I don't use it as much as the playback button.
