NEW QUESTIONS: Even though in the "RAW file extension" option in CHDK, I have selected CRW, the it is actually saved as .DNG. In fact any of the extensions produce the same .DNG file. Why?
If "'DNG' file extension" and "DNG Format" are checked, the extension is ".DNG". Otherwise, the extension is set by "RAW File extension"
The
extension does not affect the
file format. The
file format of CHDK raw files is either
DNG, if "DNG Format" is set, or a formatless frame buffer dump if not.
In no case does CHDK save the Canon CR2 or CRW
format, because we don't have code to do that. On some cameras, these formats are available in the standard Canon firmware.
Why does it not save .CRW etc. (the canon format is supposed to be .CRW or CR2). Since it is saved as .DNG no matter what, I assume choosing .CRW Vs CR2 really odes not matter?
The
extension may affect your ability to copy files over USB, or what program they are opened with by default in Windows.
I did not know that because I have Photoshop CS2 on my PC and I have been opening the CHDK created .DNG files in that. Can you please explain. I appreciate the help.
I said
gimp cannot
natively open DNG, and I thought this was also true of Photoshop was the same. Since I don't have photoshop, I could be wrong, or maybe you have some extension or additional program that allows you to load DNG.
edit:
Google suggests photoshop CS and later should be able to open DNG.
