Hi, I am a total noob. I just downloaded chdk yesterday and it appears to have work except I can't use the camera in chdk mode. There is a red Alt at the bottom of my screen and there is script that takes up a portion of the screen. In chdk mode none of my buttons work except the menus. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a very common source of confusion, but it's actually how it's supposed to work. You use CHDK "alt" mode to set CHDK settings or run scripts. To shoot or use normal Canon functions, leave alt mode. Any CHDK overrides etc you have set will still be in effect.

The default alt key for sx30 is the shortcut button. Holding it for ~1/2 second should activate the normal Canon function.

Thank you so much for your reply. I got to mess around with the camera a little bit more yesterday and I think things are making a little more since now. I appreciate your help !!!!
