CHDK window flickers

ON my SX400 IS, some times, the CHDK window flickers. It does not happen all the time. When it does happen, there is no fixed frequency. I have not found any specific factors or circumstances in which this happens. When it does happen, it happens in all CHDK screens: all the menu screens, or even the small "countdown interval ALT" window. The whole CHDK window flickers so one cannot read or set any thing during those flickers. Only the CHDK window flickers and the the entire display screen. This does not happen on my other cameras (SX30, SX530). I have identical scripts and other folders set on all these cameras.

Solutions? Thanks.

FWIW, Digic 6 cameras are significantly different from other models, so the specific details may be different. However, the general explanation is the same: When the Canon UI updates, the CHDK UI flickers.

So, this is some thing I have to live with and work around the problem.

Try to do most of your setup work with the camera in Playback mode. You will have a lot less flickering.

Set the "AF Frame" to the "Center" in Canon's menu, this will dramatically reduce flickering.
Be sure you are not in the AUTO shooting mode,in this mode, flickering can be very frequent.

Maybe it is stupid but ...
Could CHDK automatically open a Canon menu each time before the CHDK menu opens? Then it never seems to flicker with me ...

That would be quite easy to implement.  Just fake a MENU key press before opening the CHDK menu.

Actually not a totally bad idea. And it would work with pretty much any CHDK supported camera.

The most obvious problem that I can see is that most ports don’t currently have color palettes picked to look good when the Canon menu is active.

Hello Backhole, Thank you. Setting the AF Frame to center has eliminated the flicker.

I am not sure what you mean by "be sure you are not in AUTO shooting mode". The SX400 is a fully auto camera with no manual controls.

If you use P mode, you should be able to control the features that make the canon display update all the time. In AUTO, you often can't turn off things like face tracking.
