SunsetF16 not working

Hello,

I tried to use the SunsetF16 script but it did not work.

First can some one please point me to a page which has instructions for "how to use this script" (similar to what they have for Sunset 4 & 5).

I tried SunsetF16 on two cameras. SX30 IS and SX530 HS. I installed the script, copied all necessary files into the Lualib folder of both root and CHDK/lualib. By the way, even though in the scripts list it reads as "SunsetF16" on the display it reads as "sunsetF15" on both cameras. Since I did not find the detailed instructions on how to use this script, I used the default settings. When I run the script I get similar message on both cameras. Here is what I get:

ON SX30:
ge.preload '[f-date]'
file.A/CHDK/scripts/f-date.lua
lualib/f-date.lua
***terminated***

On SX530:
e.preload ['dummy']
le.A/chdk/scripts/dummy.lua
lib/dummy.lua
**Terminated**

Please advise.

It's helpful if you link exactly where you got the script from, since there are often several different versions floating around.

Your error message seems to indicate some files are not in the expected location. There is some mention of similar issues in this thread https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=3079.msg31644#msg31644

I would also note this script is ~9 years old, so it wouldn't be terribly surprising if something wasn't compatible

The script was downloaded via the link provided by MattKime in post in April 2009 (sunsetF16.zip) in the thread that you mentioned.

Your error message refers to a module called "f-date"

The zip in this post https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=3079.msg31644#msg31644 only seems to contain and refer to "date"

This suggests the script you are running isn't the same one from the zip. Note that in the zip, sunsetF16.lua isn't in a SCRIPT subdirectory, so if you just unzipped it into /CHDK a different script might be left in CHDK/SCRIPT

The error messages you posted are truncated. You may be able to see the full message using "Display last console" in the CHDK menu under misc->console

Thank you. Here is the full message from console:

IN SX30:
***started***
A/chdk/scripts/sunsetF16
lua:73:module 'f-date' not found
ge.preload [f-dae]
file 'A/chdk/scripts/f-date.lua
lualib/f-date.lua
***terminated***

And in SX530:
***started***
A/CHDK/scripts/sunsetF16
lua:71:module 'dummy' not found
e.preload ['dummy']
file 'A/chdk/scripts/dummy.lua
lualib/dummy.lua
***Terminated***

I checked the CHDK/Lualib folder in the SD card. It does not have f-date file but it does have dummy.lua of 1KB size.

Hello again. So I went back to the thread of SunsetF16. There are 3 different zip files mentioned in those threads. On my SX30, I tried all those. The file in the thread dated 1 Feb 2009 appears to at least run.

With the default settings of parameters, when I run the script, it does say "started" but nothing else happens. The screens continues to show "started" but nothing else happens. No activity of the camera motor, shutter or any thing. When I press the shutter button again, it does show on the screen "interrupted". I have the camera set in the "manual" mode. The CHDK settings, I have tried them both with "disable overrides" answered "yes" or "no". The script settings I tried both the default value of 12 and changed to 60 for the "pics per hour", Either way it does nothing. This is at about 3PM. The sun is out and the camera is pointed to the horizon and not directly to the sun.

Any one familiar with the "SunsetF16", please, what is normally supposed to happen when this script is run? Does camera take a shot immediately after Thanks.

What do you expect from a script from 2009?

For time lapse with sunsets I would always recommend this script

Hello c_joerg, Thanks for pointing me to Rawpoint. I have reviewed the instructions for this script. Very complex and extensive. I realize that I have a lot of learning to do, not only of this script but also camera functions/ photography in general. I will try out this script, initially with default settings and may be experiment some. I am sure I will need further help and guidance. I will get back after a while. Thanks.
