I own a Canon SX510HS camera and I gladly use (and thanks for) CHDK. Last year I managed to capture a lightning using a motion detection script, but I don't remember anymore which script was it. Recently I tested 2 motion script that I still have in camera, but no one seems to work properly. Can you help me with a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Your best bet us probably here : MDFB2013.lua

Although some of the results I've seen from people running an intervalometer with a long shutter time (15 sec?) that simply loops as fast as possible taking shots have been pretty impressive and much easier to setup.

Thank you for suggestion, I'll try it. Intervalometer with long exposure time is good, but only in the night.  :)

None of the scripts is not a "fire and forget", you always have to adjust the parameters of exposure. For daily photography, you can use a minimum ISO and a smaller aperture (larger number). Set the exposure time to make the image without lightning slightly under-exposed.
The Intervalometer is probably a better choice than some MD Scripts.
For a good image of lightning you have to make hundreds of bad images, experience will be your best friend there.
