Thank you so much Hero Member!!
the "hold down Func/Set + Display + "Down" on the wheel worked. So my firmware is version GM1.00D

I was able to update my firmware and saw the CHDK Splash Screen shown here "Error

So now I see the battery status on my LCD, but I can't access the ALT menu. I've tried the same steps as the posts by BlindHunter (pressing the Shortcut/Printer button, and Shortcut/Printer button followed by the Function/Set), and nothing happens. I still have the same menu options.

Any suggestions??

I feel like I'm so close, yet so far!! haha :)

thanks for any help!

According to the Wiki page for the SX200is http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX200IS

just 'Print' is the way to get into Alt mode (you'll see <Alt> at bottom-center of your screen)

once you got that (<Alt> at bottom-center i mean) press Menu ...

hi Whim,

Thanks for the reply.  I've tried the steps from the wiki page, but pressing the 'Print' button (or the Direct Print button as referred to in the manual) still doesn't bring up the ALT menu.
Also, I didn't realize the battery charge indicator on the LCD is automatically displayed...so it's not an indication that CHDK loaded.

Has anyone encountered this before where you get to the CHDK Splash Screen but the ALT menu won't come up?
Is it possible that the fiirmware did not update correctly and is there anyway I can check?

When I repeat the steps to check what firmware version I have, that screen pops up saying there are 'no errors', but the 'update firmware' option does not display in my menu anymore.

thank you!

@dabrera

Please note that, although you use the 'Firm Update' menu, that does NOT mean your firmware actually gets
updated. You'll have to redo this every time you start your cam, and it needs the PS.FI2 to be on your card
in the root directory.

If, on the other hand, you have made your card bootable, CHDK will start up automatically when you turn tour cam on;
in this case DISKBOOT.BIN must be present on your card (in the root directory) AND you must have activated the
write protect on your card.

HTH,

wim

PS and do yourself (and me!) a big favour: read the FAQ that seem to apply (see my signature)

I am the newest of the newbies. I have just followed the step-by-step progress from Beta  in creating CHDK for the Canon SD880. Wow! and Thanks! to all who made this possible.

A month ago I loaded the appropriate CHDK for my Canon SD850. Should I expect similar happy results?

No, I am the newest of the newbies :) I believe I have the correct chdk on a sd card for my A590 IS
Haven't put it in the camera yet. I used this build a590-101b-0.9.9-863-full.zip
My goal is to try time lapse photography, not sure yet if time lapse feature is a default in this build.
I know nothing about writing scripts, I haven't done enough homework to get the couage to put this sd card in yet. Coaxing encouraged.

@NubeeA590
You may want to take a look at the scritps here:

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UBASIC/Scripts

There are some  Intervalometer scripts and others there.

The A590IS-101b works well with chdk.

The only thing that still doesn't work well is video. Auto Focus won't work if you press "set/shutter" during video recording.

I hope this helps.

I have still the same shutter speed, stil same ISO, stil same Aperture, no RAW, and the stuff I miss is bulb and time lapse option.
