Apparently the zooming in alt mode is kinda conflicting with something there because I just used it with the osd showing DOF and "show state displays" and the camera crashed when I tried zooming out all the way. The SD value is changing, but the increment is set to 1, and the zooming it does at the same time doesn't let me see the change. Tried doing this:

Can you try this:
-in the CHDK menu go to "Miscellaneous stuff" >> "Tools" >> "Memory browser"
-set the address with the keys left, right to 0x00015ed8 , you can change the increase factor with the zoom lever
-slightly move the zoom lever to the left and see if the value changes next to the item "WORD:", if you see a change send a new value, of course send and the value you see until no key is pressed
-repeat the same for the opposite direction
...but got lost when you say "send". The value, at rest, was, say, 0CF70 (just saying a random value). When I moved it a bit, it changed to 0BF70; but when I pushed it all the way, it went back to 0CF70. That would explain why it thought the lever was in neutral position, but the zooming in alt mode seems related to software.

That's normal. In <ALT> mode, CHDK masks known bits so you can't see the change.

I would say that the CHDK firmware is kinda trying to do the zooming at the same time as the focusing. Any idea @reyalp?

Yes, to prevent the native Canon zoom function you have to do what I wrote you, some zoom bits are not yet masked in the chdk code.

Well, middle point and both extremes were 0xCF7F (53119), slight tele position was 0xCD7F (52607), slight wide position was 0xCB7F (52095). What should I do now?

OK, here's a test build.
You should be able to use the zoom buttons as described here: https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=13472.msg144458#msg144458

Works now, thanks! Pushing zoom to the limits still doesn't do anything, SD stays the same; but moving a little does the trick

@blackhole: Including both zoom steps in the keymap (see sx710 for an example) might improve this.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks!
I have it in the keymap but in the wrong order, full speed must be first in the order.
I seem to have made the same mistake on the sx410.

@Pedro
A new test build is attached.

Works really nicely now! Just saw the wifi button is also added for alt. Tiny question: is there anyway to set another button other than the shutter for executing scripts? Having to execute shoot.lua or .bas just to take a picture in alt isnĀ“t something I really like. Furthermore, I enabled AF-point zoom in order to focus better, but it only appears outside of alt mode because it must recognize the shutter as half pressed and about to take a picture. In alt mode, the shutter halfway enables the shortcuts and fully pressed just executes the scripts.
