A590 + MDFB 2013 v1.1a = no flash

I can't get the flash to operate in most scripts.  It works normally outside <ALT>.

I tried two CHDK versions, 1.4.1 5097 and an earlier 1.4.1.  You know the four scripts that come with CHDK?  The flash works with the HDR script but none of the others.  Also doesn't work with MDFB.

I tried "always flash" and "auto flash" without success.  I also tried to override the flash in Enhanced Photo Operations / Auto Flash + & Manual Flash +.

I am sure the flash used to work in the MDFB script but I have not tried to use it (the flash) in the script for a couple years.

Help if you can,
Thanks,

Terry

The MDFB script has the following line:
Code: [Select]
set_prop(props.FLASH_MODE, 2)     -- flash off As the note says, this disables flash. Try removing that line from the script and set your desired flash mode on the Canon user interface.

Bingo!!!  I mimicked what appears to be the "rem" command and placed a couple dashes and a space in front of that line.  Flash now flashes.

Many, many thanks for the quick reply.

One more question - how do I load / run CHDK without loading any script?  Just use the camera normally with CHDK loaded.

The script tittle shown in the OSD just shows you which script you have selected. It doesn't have any effect unless you press shoot while in alt mode. There is no way to not have a script selected.

If you want to shoot normally, just leave alt mode. Any CHDK overrides you set in the menu will still be in effect.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
