Hi,
Does it matter whether "Safety MF" (in the Canon menu) is on or off when I'm setting the hyperfocal distance in MF?
Thanks,
...... john

"Safety MF" potentially changes the focus distance. If you want to set a specific distance (regardless of whether it's hyperfocal or not), it's probably not what you want.

If you want the camera to try to improve the focus of whatever is in the focus region, then "Safety MF" might help.

Hi reyalp,
So, you're saying that Safety MF may help, if I'm not in manual focus, but would not likely be a good idea in manual focus?

No. If you aren't in MF mode, then Safety MF presumably does nothing. I'm not clear whether it applies when using AF Lock, but certainly it shouldn't do anything in regular AF mode.

If you ARE in MF mode, then Safety MF is supposed to do a little bit of AF around the distance you set your MF to. If that's what you want, use it. If it's not, don't.
