Was the DNG converter applying any sort of lossless compression?
I really cannot tell; all of those MBs had to disappear somewhere.
Adobe DNG converter does default to lossless compression. Most programs that write DNG do, CHDK is the exception because we have very limited resources on the camera.

The Chasys Draw documentation
states that it uses dcraw for raw support, which explains why it it can load CHDK raw. If does what you need, that's great. Just beware that CHDK raw includes no metadata like exposure, white balance etc.
