STICK Can't Find CHDK Build (Even Though It Exists)

Hello all,

Total newbie here.

Trying to prepare an SD card with STICK, running as administrator on Windows 7 64-bit.

Drag and drop of an image doesn't seem to work, but I can successfully browse to an image from a Canon SX120IS. STICK recognizes the image and correctly identifies the camera and firmware version (100b).

However, that's as far as it gets... it says "No official build is available for this camera", even though I know it exists (sx120is-100b-1.4.1-5167-full.zip), and indeed, I've downloaded it!

I do notice that the STICK user interface indicates that the default stable version of CHDK is 1.3 and the development version is 1.4, whereas those are actually 1.4 and 1.5 respectively on the CHDK downloads page. Is the problem simply that I'm using an obsolete version of STICK? I'm using the version that the CHDK web page(s) currently link to.

Thanks for any info!

I'm not sure when @zeno (a.k.a Dave Mitchell) last update STICK so it may not be using the most current directories.  As you've noticed.

Never the less, you can install the build you downloaded (sx120is-100b-1.4.1-5167-full.zip) using the procedure listed here :

Well, that was a step forward anyway! STICK finds and 'downloads' my previously downloaded version of the relevant build, but then gets stuck on Step 3 (Analyze Card / Awaiting Permission to Scan). When I click the "Scan for Cards?" button, STICK simply quits and closes the interface.

This generates a new file in the STICK directory named hs_err_pid34108.log, which indicates that a fatal error has occurred in Java Runtime Environment (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)). I am running Java v7.0.800.15.

Thanks in advance for any additional insights-

Which file in the STICK install directory did you actually run?

In a Run As Admistrator command window, the command was "start javaw -jar stick.jar".

And what happens if you just run stickx.cmd as a normal user?  That works for me in Win10.

Simply double-clicking stickx.cmd results in a very brief Windows command window that disappears immediately, too fast to see any text. It does not generate any new logs/files in the STICK directory.

I'm afraid I've not been following things here lately - medical problems have taken precedence. I also do not have access to Windows 10, so it's hard for me to figure out exactly what's going wrong. However STICK will definitely NOT work unless it is given permission by the elevation VB script invoked by stickx.cmd.

The simplest piece of advice I can give is to use Dmiyry Shechtman's CHIMP app which does the job in a different way.

Hi zeno,

I'm actually running Windows 7 64-bit, with administrator privilege.

I've modified the stickx.cmd file to make it leave the command window open (by replacing the "/c" with "/k"). It seems to be executing properly, with no error messages. The STICK interface also does not thereafter make any comment about needing administrator privilege.

I should note that the SD card is actually a micro-SD card in an SD adapter. Is that possibly the issue?

Anyway, I'll try CHIMP and see what happens. Thanks for your input-
