If I understand correctly, you plan to buy multiple cameras and are concerned you might end up with other versions?
I wouldn't worry too much about that. Often there's only one version (especially on low end models like this), and if a new version shows up, there's a good chance a port for it can be added quickly. Just post in the porting thread and upload a firmware dump if you come across a new firmware version.
