Installing CHDK on Canon PowerShot SX710 HS

Hello, I'm looking for some assistance on getting CHDK working on my PowerShot SX710 HS.

I downloaded Stick (I have a Mac) and ran it using a brand-new SD card... Stick successfully created a bootable SD card (32 GB/FAT 32). I ejected the card, locked it per the instructions, and put it in the camera. I turned the camera on using the Play button on the back and scrolled through all of the menu options... but there's no option showing up to update the firmware in any of the menus. Am I missing something?

Also, if the card is locked when inserted into the camera how does the camera record new photos?

If the card is setup correctly, CHDK will load automatically when the SD card is locked. Do you see the CHDK logo appear briefly on you LCD screen at boot?

If no logo, please post the sticklog.txt file that should have been created in the folder where you installed STICK when you ran STICK.  Please post that as an attachment here.

The SX710 is a DIGIC6 camera.  For various technical reason related to random performance glitches, the firmware update method of loading CHDK on those cameras is not available.

Hint : from the Stick Web page :
Recent versions of OSX (Mountain Lion and later) require root access to make changes to cards. As a result, STICK will fail with a "permission refused" message unless it has root access. To run STICK under Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan or later versions, use the stickML.command script. Double-clicking the script will bring up a terminal window and sudo will ask you to type your logon password so STICK can get root access. STICK will run when you press return.

The "lock" on SD cards is just a piece of plastic that the engages a switch in the camera or card reader. CHDK makes the camera ignore the state of the switch.

In addition to waterwingz suggestions, you can check if your camera show "card locked" when you use the card. If it shows card locked, then CHDK definitely isn't loaded. If it does not show card locked but you don't see a CHDK splash screen, then there could be a problem with the lock detect mechanism.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
