Trouble installing CHDK for PowerShot SX700HS

I've just spent several hours trying to install CHDK on my SX700HS with no success.

I've downloaded the correct version of CHDK onto my SD card and have also downloaded EOScard as my camera doesn't have a "firmware upgrade" function on the menu.

Everything seems fine until I switch on my camera when I get a message "Memory card locked". Is there any way to get this to work?

There are actually quite a few ways to "get this to work". Doesn't sound like you are using one of them though - trying to use EOScard can be an exercise in frustration.

If at all possible, I'd suggest letting the STICK or CHIMP utilities (linked at the top of that page) do all the work for you.

I've already tried Stick and Chimp and I couldn't get either of those to work. I think I worked my way right through that page before asking for help. Perhaps I've been making a silly mistake somewhere, but I haven't a clue where I went wrong.

It's after midnight here, so I won't be able to try again until the morning.

Well, if you can provide some details about what you did and what you saw, we might be able to help with that.

They do work but there are some things that trip people up. With STICK, it's usually running the wrong batch file on Windows - you needs to run the stickx.cmd file.

Again, a detailed list of what you tried and what you saw might help us to help you.

The most common problems if you don't use STICK or CHIMP are caused by using really large SD cards relative to what the older tools like EOScard were written for and thereby not using the right format for the file system on the card.

I never did get Chimp to work, but I discovered that Java was missing from my computer (I'm not sure why). Once that was taken care of, I was able to install CHDK using Stick. That's one problem solved, thanks. Now I just have to learn how to use CHDK.
