Newbie learning how to use CHDK  :lol
I'm using IXUS 860 IS and getting started to enjoy CHKD

but when I put all the files ( allbest-ixus860_sd870-100c-50-388 ) into the root directory of SD card.
I can't see the words " Firm Update... " in the menu settings.  ;)

Could anyone help me to solve this problem. I want to enjoy the additional functions  :(

Did you start the camera in play mode? Were you able to retrieve the firmware version by placing ver.req in your root dir? Are you sure you are in the root dir of your SD-card?

Yes, I'm sure the camera is in play mode,
and i've tried to retrieve the firmware version, that's no error.

Is "F:\" the root directory of the SD card?

The ixus860 does not use the firmware-update method.

You must make the card bootable and then lock it :-

it's seems difficult for me, is there any alternative method to make me to install CHDK in my lovely IXUS860 IS?

Have you tried cardtricks125.exe. You have to make the card bootable. The program does the job very simple. Then copy the firmware, lock the card and you are up running.

Hi,

I installed this on my 860IS the other day, no problems.

As mentioned cardtricks125.exe was part of the solution (makes the card bootable).

Looks like you have installed the files in the correct place, but I thought the filename was DISKBOOT.BIN, not DISKBOOT?  Maybe you hide known file extensions but I doubt that is the case given the screen shot.

Once you've made the card bootable and have the files installed correctly, yoou need to set the write protect/lock switch on your card otherwise the software won't boot.

Anyway that's what worked for me.

Thanks,
Matt

I'm working with an IXUS860 IS.  FW 1.00c

I've made my SD card bootable and put the latest allbest DISKBOOT.BIN
at the root dir.  Locked the card.

When I start the camera in play I see a splash CHDK splash screen, but I can't find a menu to update the firmware.  The camera won't function either.

Seems like I'm close, but I can't figure out where things went wrong.

read the FAQ.

CHDK is not firmware.

Press the direct-print (blue button) and then the menu button.
