What's up with that? Super grainy and tiny.

I just installed CHDK and I'm trying to get raw file out of my SX30is.

That's the embedded thumbnail. Many general purpose image viewer programs show the thumbnail/preview image by default. To make use of raws, you should use a dedicated raw processing program like Raw Therapee, Lightroom, darktable etc.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Also, you probably want to use DNG format for your RAW images. It's much more likely to be usable by most photoprocessing software.

I'm downloading RawTherapy right now, the site is slow, I'm still waiting. I had originally tried an online converter with no luck.

Yes this an old topic but I cannot help but warn about online converters. I don't know anything about the specific one you used since you did not mention which one but in theory if the converter involves uploading the picture to their server they could steal your photos.
