CHDK up and running with little effort on Canon SX20is

This is just a quick success story.
I had never heard of CHDK until a few hours ago.

After a little reading I downloaded STICK onto my Windows 10 computer and ran it.

I inserted a freshly formatted 4 GB SD card in my card reader....then ran STICK
At first I got an error about not having permission to analyze the SD card but a little more reading revealed I just needed to run the STICKX.CMD file and that fixed that.

After that every thing ran fine and the SD card was promptly formatted and ready.   Super easy.

Next I inserted the CHDK SD card into the camera and turned it on.
At first I was confused for a moment because it said No Image.   But I quickly learned (thanks to all the resources here) that that was normal when there are no images on the camera.....so I just took a "dummy photo" of the wall.

Next I was confused about how to actually see the CHDK menus and things but again, all the resources are right here and in minutes I was navigating the special CHDK Menus.

WOW!!!  :xmas
So nice!

Now I'll just read through the user Manual at my leisure and get up to speed on using all these new features.
I especially love the extended shutter speeds.  Very nice.

My next step is to recreate the Boot disk on a larger SD card.   A 32GB card came with the camera but I'm not sure if it can actually use a 32 GB SD card?

So thanks to all the people that put time into this.   It's real gift.   Please tell me how to make a donation to the cause if they are accepted as it is WELL worth it.

Kind Regards

Yes, you can use a 32 GB card. On old cameras like SX20 (released before 2011), the card needs to have two partitions for CHDK to auto boot. Stick should set this up automatically.

Having a partitioned card can make accessing files with a card reader more complicated, especially on older versions of windows. Under current versions of windows 10, you should see each partition as a drive.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
