I've been using CHDK for quite some time so I'm familiar with the basics but I running into a wall with controlling some specific settings located in the normal menu of the camera (not the CHDK Alt mode menu). Specifically, I can set lens retraction time manually on the camera to 1 minute. However when the camera resets, the value defaults to 0 seconds. I do not want the lens constantly retracting and extending when I switch operation modes (REC or PLAY) because I imagine it's bad for the mechanism and will lead to a mechanical failure in time. I've gone through many forums and scanned the CHDK files but cannot find a way to change this setting (lens retraction time) via CHDK. An alternative would be to just retain camera settings after reboot, but I cannot find out how to do this either.

My setup is that I am controlling six cameras via a Raspberry Pi to do some 3D modeling. I've got the system running smoothly beside this hiccup.

After changing this setting, exit the Canon menu and power off the camera manually. The Canon settings are only saved when the camera shuts down normally. Removing power or rebooting via the reboot() command does not do a normal shutdown.

Ah. Thank you so much! That explains the lack of setting retainment. Out of curiousity though, is there a way to read or change those particular settings via CHDKPTP?

One way is by sending key clicks. Not something you'd want to do every time, but manually going through 6 cameras with the GUI once shouldn't be too terrible.

If you power off the cameras with
Code: [Select]
.post_levent_to_ui"PressPowerButton"
I believe menu settings should be saved.

The other way is using UI properties https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10624.0
Don't forget what the H stands for.
