Hi All
A newbie here, help appreciated.

I'm trying to install the non stable version of CHDK into my IXUS 185 bootable (?) CHDK and I'm having difficulties. I looked for a version in the stable list but couldn't find one?

I'm using a SanDisk 32 Ultra SD formatted to FAT32. Downloaded version, copied all the files across, locked the card, put it back in the camera, started it up and no go. . . just wondering if anyone has some tips please? not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Mods please delete this. (or keep it with the following advice). I figured it out.

My mistake (two mistakes actually) was to lock the card before placing it back in the camera and press the on button. That was INCORRECT. The correct procedure (which I would have known if I read the instructions correctly sorry guys) was to put the camera back in the card unlocked, then pressing the PLAY button (not the on button) and then updating the Firmware.

Locked or unlocked should be fine for "Firm Update", but you definitely need to start with the play button.

If you use CHDK regularly, using autoboot rather than "firm update" is much more convenient. In that case, the card definitely needs to be locked.

At present there only seems to be a bootable test version for the IXUS 185.

The one I downloaded is in German, so I've got to work out the hack to turn it into English.

Process is not simple, but if works will be effective.

I'm confused, you said "update the firmware" in a previous post. But anyway, if it's working that's the important part.

Ixus185 port for Canon firmware 100a is available from the official autobuild http://mighty-hoernsche.de/trunk/
It defaults to english and includes both autoboot and firm update support.

Thanks I don't know why I missed that.

Changing firmware in camera is also a step in the bootable method is it not? Before locking the card.

The firmware update option is only available if there is a firmware update file (.FI2) on the card.
You can use the "firmware update" to load CHDK once, using the .FI2 file included in a CHDK build. It doesn't actually update your firmware, it just runs CHDK until you turn the camera off again.
When CHDK is running, you can use the CHDK menu to make the card bootable, so CHDK is automatically loaded if the card is locked.

Correct, but the process (whatever the background trickery involves) is part of Bootable set up.

Step 9: Start CHDK manually by selecting the Firmware Update option in the Canon menus.

Anyway, semantics. It works. I owe a beer to whoever did the work. : ) thanks all.
