Usually, errors like this happen when the file isn't saved as plain ASCII text. Did you edit the file?
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Just copied across as Lua file no editing. I seem to be able to save and Bas files (e.g. countdown intervalometer) but not Lua files. Is there a trick to copying and saving Lua scripts? Thanks.

If you just download the file and copy it to the SD card using your computers normal file copy, there should be no difference between bas and lua files, and no change to the content.

If you are copy / pasting code, you need to use a plain text editor (like notepad on windows) and save the file as ASCII text. However, assuming you are using the script in this thread, you shouldn't need to do this because there's a download link in the first post.

edit:
If you are being prompted to download or open the file, you should download.

Hmmm still no good.

Formatted SD card and loaded CHDK again.

Copied across lua to Script folder.

Loaded script. Set on 2 minute interval (no other functionality).

Went back into main screen, pressed shutter to run: Same error message as first. time. TERMINATED.

No go.

@reyalp's suggests that you have a corrupted script file.  Everything you describe here would just cause you to reload the same corrupted file again.

Please post your version of the script file as an attachment here so that we can check it.

I am just downloading the script file directly from Post 1 in this thread and copying it straight to the SD card.

I also tried the battery saver intervalometer script. But also receiving an error:
'reload'wrap 13
18/wrap13.lua
***TERMINATED***

Split from the ultimate thread since it doesn't seem specific to that script.

That's very strange. Can you try the llibtst.lua script included with CHDK in the TEST directory?
