Using DC-in to power remote control

I was thinking about something that would be interesting: using the dc-in to power the remote control. Doing so, it would be easier to make a remote; it would only require a switch.
However, I tried to put a connector into the DC-in and I noticed that the camera automatically switches to the external power supply. So there must be wheter a sort of switch in the connector or a electronic switch. So at the moment, it is impossible, but maybe if there is a way of disabling this automatic switch, it would work. Any guess?

Umm.... are you thinking you would actually get power out from the power input jack?

afaik, there is a mechanical switch similar to the one you find on earphones jack: if you insert a plug, the batteries are completely disconnected.

So, if you insert a plug in there and that plug does not provide supply, you won't be able to power on the camera :-)

i guess fbonomi is right.
i just tested it with my s3is. i got the official powersupply by canon.

if i run the camera by battery and plugin the powersupply, the camera will turn off.
if i run it on the powersupply, turning off the supply will also turn off the camera (even though a full set of batteries are present in the body).

nice idea, but i guess there is a hardware limitation.
moved to general chat by the way.
