Having troubles making a .dcp profile with Adobe DNG Profile Editor for Elph 180

Hello all,

I am having issues creating a DNG profile for the Canon Powershot ELPH 180. When I try to make any changes to a profile an error message says that the operation cannot be completed. If I try to save the dng profile it also says that it cannot be done. I have tried using both dng standards in CHDK, as well as passing them through Adobe's DNG converter using different camera raw compatibility settings in that (I don't use camera raw, though).


The version of the editor I have is 1.0.0.47, and I am using CHDK version 1.5 (not 1.4).

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I searched for dng profile on these forums and didn't see anyone with a similar problem. I did see references to editing dng profiles so I gather that editing dng profiles for CHDK images is possible, correct?

I have not had any problems creating profiles from CHDK DNG files with the 1.0.0.47 version of the profile editor.

I'm not sure what you expect to do with this image in the profile editor.


To create a custom profile for Lightroom or Camera Raw you should shoot a color checker chart under controlled lighting then use the 'chart' option in the profile editor to create the color matrices for the custom profile.


With the type of image you have all you can do in the profile editor is change the tone curve or manually add overrides on the color tables tab. You can't change anything on the color matrices tab.

I'm aware that typically you would use a color checker, but just trying random DNG files to see if the problem is consistent. The tone curve is actually my primary interest, in any case. Even if I just adjust the tone curve or do nothing at all and try to export it still fails.

Attached are photos of what happens when trying to adjust color temp** and exporting respectively.

** For photos taken with an infrared filter (the previously uploaded DNG is not an example of that, though) it is customary to use a custom DNG profile with the temperature cooled down, so that the image has a wider color temp range in photo editors.

Would you mind / be able to try doing some random changes to the file I sent and exporting the file to see if you can replicate the issue?

As I said, you can't change anything on the 'Color Matrices' tab in the dng profile editor on these DNG files from CHDK.


The reason is that there is only one colour matrix defined in the port for this camera so there is only one matrix in the DNG file.
The profile editor requires two matrices (dual illuminant) in order to be able to change any of the settings on the 'Color Matrices' tab.

Ohh, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying it wouldn't be useful to do so since it was following on the heels of you mentioning the color checker. Thanks for clarifying.

I wonder if I can add a second color matrix to the port.. Might have to brush up on my coding skills soon!
