     Will chdk allow me to extend the video recording time of my camera?

        It's a Powershot SX240HS. I also have an SX100is, and an S5.

It appears to be enabled for sx240hs, not the others.

        Yes, it seems to be working. However, I'm getting a warning about damaging the sensor with long videos.
        Does anyone have any experience wrt to long videos and senor damage?

I'm not aware of any reports of damage resulting from this. Personally, I'd expect the Canon firmware to detect overheating and shut down, but there's no guarantee.

You can enable the sensor temperature display if you want to track how hot it gets, though it'll be up to you to decide what you think is safe. You can compare with hot it gets in normal operation.
