Hello Backhole, Thank you. Setting the AF Frame to center has eliminated the flicker.

I am not sure what you mean by "be sure you are not in AUTO shooting mode". The SX400 is a fully auto camera with no manual controls.
AUTO mode is just one of the available modes on your camera.
The best choice for working with CHDK is Program AE Mode (P).
Here you can find the user manual for your camera. See pages 43 and 49, there is described how you can select the P mode on your camera.

Hi,

I've tried any of the hints postes here to avoid flickering of the OSD and the CHDK menues: nothing has helped - even flickering starts with camera power on regardless of the mode/settings used.

The flickering in addition does not allow acccess some CHDK settings like e.g. choosing OSD colors.

Are there any new findings how to prevent this flickering?
