quick question- is the release count number under INFO the camera's shutter count/actuation count? thanks.

I do not think so...
It's been a while but there is a script that can be used to find out

What camera are you asking about?

On some cameras either vers.req info (https://chdk.fandom.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._How_can_I_get_the_original_firmware_version_number_of_my_camera.3F) or GetCameraInformationData (https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=13916.0) provide a "Total Shoot" value, which may be the total number of shutter actuation but can be reset in some circumstances that aren't entirely clear.
