How to double sensor´s resolution ... ?

CHDK does not provide any way to capture video at higher frame rates or higher resolution. In general, I would expect the Canon firmware operates fairly close to the hardware limits. If Canon could have offered HD slo-mo on SX40 when it was released in 2011, it would have been a major competitive advantage, so if it were known how to control these things (which it isn't, as far as I know) the scope for improvement would likely be fairly limited.
There has to be a way to do this. After all, it's the software that controls the Camera. If there's a way to force the onboard computer to grab the frames in high res instead of 640x480, we could get an HD slow motion.

What software can do is limited by processing power, memory bandwidth, sensor readout characteristics and so on.This is why high frame rate modes are often lower resolution: Binning or skipping pixels can efficiently reduce resolution in the readout process keeps the bandwidth and processing requirements of the remaining steps within hardware limits.SX40 can do 1920x1080 @ 24 FPS, which is ~50 Mpix/s. 640x480@120 is ~37 Mpix/s. So if you could set arbitrary resolution and frame rate (which we don't know how to do, and may well not be possible), you might reasonably expect the hardware to be able to do something like 640x480@160, or 800x600@100.Again, if Canon could have sold the SX40 with HD slo-mo, why wouldn't they? It was the top of Canon's product line in that segment at the time, so it wouldn't make much sense to artificially limit it.
