So, Reyalp. Thank you.

It works perfectly now.
In video mode, the lvdumpimg is a full 720x528 resolution, and looks better than the stock video resolution.

In the other modes (which are all photo modes), the image I get back is 720x240, which looks like garbage.

When I scale it to 720x540, it looks still like garbage. :P

You mentioned it shouldn't look better than the stock mjpeg, but it does. At least when I enter the Video Mode.
But why does it look like junk in photo mode? Does it, reduce the live view resolution to allow extra processing power to the photo modes? But still, thanks! The new 720x528 mode looks incredible! 👍

Thanks for confirming. I've checked that change in, it will appear in trunk autobuild 6249 and later.

Well, it only has 240 lines of vertical resolution, which really isn't much...

I meant the scaled 720x240 version, and said you *shouldn't be surprised* if it looked worse.

My guess is that the physical camera display is only 240 (the specs in the Canon S3 manual say "approx 115,000 pixels" which doesn't match any obvious way of counting the buffer sizes, but would be even less than 720x240), and the 528 buffer in video mode somehow allows video to be handled more efficiently, while being downscaled for the display. But that's just a guess.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Oh. Alrighty. Thanks for the information and insight! You are seriously a genius. ✌

But I was wondering, there is no other live view buffer that goes higher than 720x528, right?

P.S. I should also mention, it seems the same issue might be on my Canon SX40HS where it doesn't work right in video mode, but I'll have to first check again. :P

P.P.S. The higher resolution video is splendid! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1053116980451876986/1116213723414142986/720x528CanonS3ISFINALVID0001-0500.mp4

I'm not aware of any for cameras of the same generation as s3.

Looking at the code, it seems like it has a pretty complete live view implementation, so it shouldn't have the issue s3 originally had. There could be other bugs though.

I would not expect a not expect SX40 to have the 528 viewport height in video, my impression was that was only present on early digic II and III cams. That said, Canon has done a lot of variations over the years.
