Good news. I just compiled trunk r6281 (got via chdk-compile-gui) and tested on SX120IS and SX150IS. Both work fine. Thanks for your time and effort.
P.S. It would be good to fix related docs
here and maybe in other places, so that this new behavior doesn't surprise users.
