EOS M10 and DOF calculator

I understand well that the CHDK DOF calculator on the M10 (CHDK_DE_m10-110d-1.7.0-6310-full_BETA) will not work due to the broad range of lenses that can be used on this body (both AF and manual lenses).

However using the DOF calculator in a "malual mode", where the user puts in focal lenght, aperture and subject distance, might be usefull for many users of this cam.

One option may be to build this "manual mode" into the DOF configuration menue. Or a script may do ths job if the DOF calculator can be called from BASIC or LUA with this input parameters.

How do the developers think about this?

It should be possible to support for most lenses (obviously excluding purely manual lenses that don't talk to the camera), there are functions that at least most of the required, but some code and testing is needed to connect it to the standard CHDK functions. I started trying to get the required functions a long time ago, but without having an ILC camera or working closely with someone who does, would be difficult to get right. See https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=14554.0 and the various linked threads.

I would say for a programmer who has access to the camera, getting the values from the lens would not be much more work than writing a manual version of the calculator, and would be far more useful.

For a script, you don't need to be able to call the calculator, in Lua replicating the calculations using fmath for floating point should be straightforward. Making a UI that wasn't too clunky could be a challenge (also true in CHDK code), but I guess most of the time you'd only be changing a few parameters.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

As far as testing is concerned I can offer to test DOF functions at CHDK developer builds on the M10 with the following lenses:
EF-M 15-45mm
EF-M 55-200mm
EF-S 24mm/2.8
EF 85mm/1.8
EF 75-300mm III

Might that be usefull?

However with coding I fear I can't do much  :(
