First of all i'd like to thank the creators of the CHDK hack, you've created a whole wave of creative thinkers.

Ok so my question is this:  I'm a musician and usually like to practice with a sound recorder just to see what passages i can improve on the second go.  But i'm wondering, is there a way to change the external "Video" output jack to an external Microphone acceptance jack?  I mean they principally use the same jack type for my external microphone, but when i plug in the external mike, the camera switches into video display mode on the television.   My canon s5 is is pretty good at recording audio, but the quality could be better if i had that external microphone port.

any ideas?  I saw that there was a USB camera hack.  maybe it will work with the port?

I can't begin to tell how extremely unlikely it is that this would ever be possible without taking the camera apart and rewiring things from the built-in mics to that jack.

I'm not sure what you are referring to by "USB camera hack", but USB is another thing completely and you can go read all about it in the feature requests section...
