If I understood ewavr correctly, he knows how to replace one of these extensions by DNG, but that will make you unable to download files that have the replaced extension.

Yes, this is correct. I like to shoot DNG files with DNG extension, CHDK RAW files with CRW extension.
But maybe at least for A710 this problem is solved - we lose both THM and DPS (what is it?) extensions and obtain DNG (see screenshot).

Now I realized that my comment about how tu use Windows Explorer to show the content of the camera trough the USB was really stupid.  :-[

Sorry all you guys if I confused somebody with my comments.

Too much brain use trying to add the dng mods to the 578 trunk... : :'(

Yes, this is how i want it to work. THM i think is a small jpeg that often comes with avi's to be used as thumbnails. The dps i have no idea what is.
So for me, it would have been nice to be able to access jpg, avi, crw and dng via camera usb.

Well, finally I applied the dng-r585.diff to the 587 build.

I compiled for my A720IS and it works fine.

As Whim suggested I did it by hand, took me some time, but was a good introduction to understand how the code works.

Now I have to go back 23 years ago and remember how to program in c...

If using windows, I'd suggest using tortoise -> apply patch instead of doing it manually.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Short info for the .dps files:

It's for the PictBridge standard,
Quote
In PictBridge, USB is used as a physical layer, and PTP is used as the transport layer protocol. The newly defined DPS layer is located between PTP and the DPS application layer. The DPS layer translates DPS operations and events into PTP operations and events, and vice versa. PictBridge defines the interface between the DPS layer and the DPS application layer. PictBridge does not make any changes or additions to the standard transport layer and below.
(from http://www.canon.com.au/about/press_room/story_830.html - "PictBridge CIPA White paper - Digital Photo Solutions for Imaging..." aka Canon dps whitepaper)

PS: have a look to the strings in a dump of a PictBridge supported camera...

So, DNG support now in trunk for all cameras, except:
 - g9 (DNG for g9?)
 - a590, ixus50(sd400), ixus75(sd750) - because DNG4PS2 don't support them
 - ixus40(sd300) - due to mismatch in RAW size between CHDK and DNG4PS2 (what RAW size is correct?)

Changes from previous beta: only cosmetic (language strings, error message "missing badpixel.bin").

P.S. My compilation time for all 71 supported firmware version now is 47 minutes (without signatures search, WinXP, Athlon 64X2 5400+)  :(.

The build number in the main downloads (CHDK Download - build 0.8.1, revision #589) hasn't updated, am I missing something?

We need compilation log. On my computer CHDK for all files compiles successfully.

No, I mean if you click on the build number (which is still 589), it shows all the build changes from 590 to 591, but the file downloads are still 589. The changes don't seem to be available for download. There are no 591 build files.
